MikroTik Router is a very useful network tool product. Ability to manage the network widely used from Smarphone personal use to the scale of network between countries. For setting MikroTik on the desktop system using Winbox software that is from the MikroTik create the software to perform a remote on RouterOS. Unfortunately, until this article is published, Winbox is not available for any platform other than for Windows. Reasonable because we know that the setting is quite complex MikroTik and connectivity issues where the smartphone only rely on wi-fi to connect.
With these limitations make MikroTik routerboard difficult to access or on the remote by using a smartphone. However, it is still possible to remotely MikroTik using smartphone or tablet. Surely the remote can be done on mikrotik router that has built-in wireless interface that has been set as access points. Smartphones that have been connected via wi-fi from MikroTik wireless interface can be used for setting and remote MikroTik, this makes setting or just monitoring can be effective and can be done immediately without the need to open or turn on the computer or laptop first. Here are some ways or methods that can be used to access either only for remote settings via MikroTik Router by using a smartphone / tablet:
MikroTik does not provide Winbox officially for smartphone or tablet platform either Android, iOS, or other smartphone platform. But MikroTik provides MikroTik API that allows users to create their own applications that have the feature to perform remote and MikroTik routerboard settings like Winbox software.
Many users or application developers who have created applications like Winbox for smartphones, many are already uploading their apps on Playstore and Appstore. For Android on Playstore there are Micro Winbox, DroidBox, TikTool, and many others. There’s also MikroManage and iWinbox in Appstore for the iOS platform. How to use it is almost the same as Winbox, just connect Smarphone via wi-fi, open the application enter the router IP, login and password and ready for monitoring and setting MikroTik.
WebFig / Webbox
WebFig is one of the methods to access routerOS on MikroTik using browser. To access it is very easy, can be through a PC or smarpthone already installed browsers such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Simply connect to the network with wi-fi, Smarphone open the browser and type the MikroTik IP router that you want to access in the URL address. Logged in like in Winbox and will display the router OS display in MikroTik which is very similar to the view when access by using Winbox software.
Webbox itself is the predecessor of WebFig. The MikroTik Router with the new RouterOS no longer uses Webbox for access by using the browser. Webbox changed to WebFig because the features and user interface is very limited and less convenient to access.
Telnet and SSH (Secure Shell)
This method is a universal method to access or remote almost any type of hardware that can be accessed in the network (network) in this particular MikroTik router. On the Windows operating system Putty became a popular software for access with Telnet or SSH. For smartphones / tablets, many telnet and SSH apps are available in the app market, on the Android platform such as Mobile Telnet, Mobile SSH, Termius, JuiceSSH, and many others, choose and customize to their own tastes and needs.
However, access or settings using Telnet or SSH require the ability to provide commands on the router by typing in a special command code (Command Prompt) on the console or Telnet / SSH terminal. For a list of command codes can be seen in the Manual Console on MikroTik Wiki. In order to make remote via telnet or SSH also need to be sure that service and port of Telnet and SSH is active on router Mikrotik which can be set in IP – Service.
